MyThemeShop Review highlighting the positives and the negatives about this popular theme club. If you are looking to buy a WordPress theme, we hope this will help you to evaluate them before you make your move.
THOUSANDS OF WORDPRESS THEME CHOICES
As I said in my previous post, there are thousands of WordPress themes on the market. They cost anywhere from free to thousands of dollars for a custom design. However, premium themes bridge the gap and provide budget friendly themes to the masses. I believe in premium themes. This is because they are better coded, are frequently updated and supported.

MYTHEMESHOP REVIEW: THE POSITIVES
I will first begin with what I believe is good about MyThemeShop themes and then end with the bad. Please note that this is a hands-on MyThemeShop review, as this theme I am using, the Newspaper theme, is a MyThemeShop theme.

As of today, MyThemeShop has a customer base of over 373934. This is after only a few years in business. That is a rapid growth, so let’s see what they have been doing to get there so quickly.
MyThemeShop themes are beautifully designed. They currently have 144 themes and add at least 1 each week. They have themes for so many niches.
What’s more, their themes come with different layouts, like a Swiss Army knife. They name their themes according to its primary use. So this theme is Newspaper because it is primarily made for a news blog or website. However, it can be immediately converted to a food blog, for travel, video, viral blog site, education, beauty, or even a squeeze page or a shop.

Now let’s look at the Top 10 design features of MyThemeShop Themes.
1. REDUCES THE NUMBER OF PLUGINS YOU NEED
The highlight of MyThemeShop themes is that it comes with many features that are normally provided by plugins. Having these features natively coded into the themes reduces the number of requests and reduces server load. The result? Faster loading site and a more efficient working theme.
MyThemeShop themes are mobile responsive. This means that they adjust to neatly fit the size of screens. The result is that your viewers get a perfectly formatted site on whatever device they are using.
3. FAST LOADING
Google loves a fast loading website and so does viewers. MyThemeShop themes are well known for their speed. No surprise that speed is one of their biggest selling points.
4. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
Speed and responsiveness are components of great SEO. Search engine optimisation is another big feature of MyThemeShop website. MyThemeShop themes are coded to give the search engines what they are looking for. For example, my theme takes out the stop words from my URL. This is a big boost for SEO and in most other themes, you would have to get a plugin to undertake this task.
5. CLEAN THEME CODING
MyThemeShop themes are properly coded to provide effective performance. They have organized and commented the theme. Easily make changes to the codes (as long as you know what you are doing).
6. ADVANCED TYPOGRAPHY FEATURES
Fonts have grown in importance. Mix and match headlines and body. Change sizes. MyThemeShop themes allow you to customize fonts to your heart’s desire.
7. AD MANAGEMENT
Ads are important if you wish to earn from your blog or website. MyThemeShop themes provide native ad slots. What’s more, they also allow you to schedule the time your ad shows. On most blogs, this would require a separate plugin.
8. SOCIAL MEDIA INTEGRATION
A blog or website is nothing today without social integration. MyThemeShop lets you easily share to social media their themes. This is natively coded into the themes. Again, this removes the need for plugins.
9. UNLIMITED COLOURS AND BACKGROUND
Change the colours and the background through the Theme Options panel. The choices are unlimited.
10. POWERFUL THEME OPTIONS PANEL
The Theme Options panel provides tons of customization features for each theme. You can tweak to your heart’s desire without needing a professional web designer.
MyThemeShop provides support through a forum. Fortunately, you may not need to contact customer service, as there are thousands of articles in the forum. Chances are there are persons who may just have had the same problem as you have. If you still need customer service, you may contact them by starting a forum thread. From my experience, response time varies from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the time of day.
MyThemeShop provides added value for their customers through the sale of premium plugins. It is no surprise, these plugins are ‘at home’ in their themes.
MyThemeShop has a very attractive affiliate program. Firstly, they offer 55% commission for referred purchases. Secondly, they offer 10% residual earnings as shown below.
MYTHEMESHOP REVIEW: NEWSPAPER THEME IN ACTION
MyTheme Shop is well organised and you see it from the moment you download your theme. Sure enough, you get all the necessary files, documentation, and most importantly, the change log. Worthy of note, the change log allows you to see changes made by updates over time. Hence, this shows you what you are missing if you have not yet updated. Additionally, you also get textual instructions on how to upload your theme as well as an installation video.

After you upload and activate the theme, you can configure it from the Theme Options panel. All you need to do, start from the first tab, (General Settings) and work your way down. It is that easy to setup and to use MyThemeShop themes. Indeed, the video below shows the features of the Newspaper theme.
MYTHEMESHOP REVIEW: THE NEGATIVES
MyThemeShop is a theme club, and theme clubs come with disadvantages.
Firstly, the themes are sold for a specified time. Let me explain. When you buy a theme, you get support and updates for a year. Subsequently, the theme is still free for you to use, but if you do not update, you will be stuck with an outdated theme.
The changelog will show you just what you are missing. Hence, you either stay with the outdated theme (that is still good) or you update. How much does it cost to update? Let’s look at their pricing which is another negative as far as I am concerned.
I am not a fan of their pricing structure. They charge up to $59 for single themes, which is the standard price for a premium theme. However, each year there is a renewal. Unfortunately, the renewal amount varies from theme to theme and is not stated specifically for the theme you buy.
For example, to update my theme is $35. In their pricing, they stated the range as $25-$45. My grouse is, on what grounds is mine valued at $35? Why is it not $25? On the other hand, why not $45?
One can look at it from another angle though: they keep updating your theme. The outcome is that it gets better over time. Fortunately, this has been my experience with this theme that I am using.
MYTHEMESHOP REVIEW: CONCLUSION
MyThemeShop Review conclusion? I can say that they have some of the fastest loading, well-designed WordPress blog and website themes. In addition, their themes are responsive, search engine optimised and full of features. What’s more, they are easy to configure as well.
Add to that, good customer service nad an excellent affiliate program. Unfortunately, their pricing system is not totally to my liking. Like me, many may not like the annual renewal. Fortunately, that negative can be looked on as a positive. I must say that it does mean I have a blog theme that will be improved for years to come.
On the whole, I still recommend MyThemeShop themes as the best blog themes for WordPress. This is primarily because of the performance of the themes. Especially relevant is that I have used them over the years with great results and I plan to continue using them. This is because no other theme has given me the level of satisfaction as MyThemeShop themes. As a result, this is one case where the good surpasses the bad.
