This post contains my favourite blogging resources. These are products, tools or services I have used over the years, that I find extremely valuable.
If you are a blogger, make sure you have a resources page on your blog. Recommend what has worked for you (both free and paid products).
My resources contain those tools that are effective as of today (the time of writing). This list will be continuously updated over time.
I would suggest these blogging resources to all my blog followers who are seeking to run a successful blog. These can help you along your journey to make money online.
It is important that you note that I have tried all these tools myself (except for one that I don’t need, but you may need it, as it comes highly recommended).
Yahjam Host is my own hosting company on which I host all my websites. It is not mass advertised because I want to keep a small, manageable clientèle.
It is based in the US and runs on the servers of one of the top hosting companies in the world: Inmotion Hosting. Hosting costs $4.99 per month but you can use this coupon (if not expired) to get it for $3.95 per month.
By the way, you get a free domain with your hosting package. No need to buy a separate domain.
Domain Names: Yahjam Host Domains
I buy my own domain names through my own domain name service. Domains cost only $10.79 per year for .com domains.
If you are definitely penny-pinching, I recommend Name Silo. They have the cheapest domains on the web, starting at only $8.99 for .com domains. If you use them, make sure to take advantage of their free WhoIs privacy.
Now you have web hosting and a domain name, you will need a blogging platform.
I strongly recommend WordPress as the best blogging platform to run a blogging business. Take a look at this previous post I wrote: “Starting a blog? Which Blogging Platform Is Best (And Why)?”
Most definitely, you need to check out my detailed resource on How To Start a Blogging Business (Complete Beginners Guide). You can follow that article and create your own online blog business.
Themes allow you to customize the look and feel of your blog. I have been using MyThemeShop themes for years.
What I am most impressed about is the loading speed, which always allowed me to rank well.
As of writing, they have over 50 beautiful, high-performance blog themes. This theme that I am using is one of them. What’s more, they add a new theme at least once per week.
You will need to choose a colour scheme for your blog as a way to brand your blog. Combined with a matching logo, it will go a far way in branding you as a professional.
Coolors allows you to choose unlimited colour schemes. There are suggested schemes as well; the possibilities are endless. There is no need for you to have a knowledge of design.
Check out this helpful post entitled 3 Steps to Choose Colours For Your Website. If you want to use a single image as inspiration for the colour scheme of your blog, you may want to read this post: How to Extract Color Palettes From Images.
Colors and a logo go hand-in-hand to brand your blog as someone to be taken seriously.
For a reasonably priced, efficient logo service, Logo Nerds has you covered. I have never used them, as I create my own logos, but the are highly recommended by those who do.
MailerLite is a fast growing email autoresponder company. You will like that it is free for the first 1000 subscribers.
You can also easily earn by referring others. So, you get to use it free and still earn money from them. It is simple to use, so it’s great for beginners.
This is such a vast and important area. I will list several different blogging resources and tools, most of which are free.
The main photo editor I use is called Photoscape. It is an open source program available for free.
There is so much you can do with this, I won’t start telling you all its features. It has been my constant companion.
Photo compression is extremely important. The smaller the size of your images, the faster your website will load. People will want to stay on your site because it loads quickly.
Website speed also boosts your site in the search engine rankings. However, you do not want your images to look washed out because you have reduced the size. So, you use an image compression app to compress the image while retaining its crisp, sharp look.
Smushit will automatically compress the image, even more, when the image has been uploaded to the blog.
You will need copyright free images so you do not get in trouble with the owners of the images.
Pixabay is the most popular free stock photo site on the web. I use their images in most of my posts.
How to Have Access to 2 Million Free Photos Inside Your Blog
It is all well to go to Pixabay and then edit photos and upload to your blog. What if you could have instant access to 2 million plus images from several free stock image sites?
What if you could edit them inside your blog post using special effects, adding images, text, layers, filters and more?
It is called Fotopress. Find out more on how I instantly find unlimited images for all my blogs.
Free images are okay, but if you really want your blog to stand out, you will need paying images.
These paid images will be rare and your blog will look unique.
Image Creation: Canva
What can I say about Canva? It lets you create all sorts of unique images.
Almost all the Pinterest banners on this site were created using Canva. It is the go-to tool for most bloggers.
Create images for all your social media sites, create unique blog post images, eBook covers, documents, advertising banners and so much more.
Another great online editor for creating graphics for your blog is Picmonkey. It is both a photo editor and a graphics design tool in one.
Keyword Research: Long Tail Pro
Now this one is an exception. The keyword tool I use is no longer available for sale, so I am recommending a tool that has been at the top of the pile for years. Long Tail Pro will find long tail keywords for you.
These are great for blog post titles and for getting you to rank for keywords that others have not found. This is a very important tool.
Google Keyword Planner
Google’s free keyword tool is a priceless blogging resource. It allows you to find keywords related to the main keyword.
It shows the competition for the keyword, as well as the monthly search volume. Great for keyword research.
Social Media Management Blogging Resources
Social Media is critical to your blog’s development. It is a powerful source of traffic as well as for building your brand and authority. The following blogging resources and tools will help you maximize your presence on social media.
– an old favourite that has been around a while, but still one of the top social media sharing tools.
Use Hootsuite to manage Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn or Instagram. The free version allows you to use 3 social media accounts. Great tool!
– Curates content from all over the web and allows you to share to your social media channels. You will never be short of content.
– Pinterest is a blogger’s dream as it is a great source of traffic. However, pinning can be overwhelming.
Tailwind allows you to schedule posts and find similar content your followers will love.
That is just the start of what this awesome Pinterest tool can do for your Pinterest marketing.
If your blog theme does not come with built-in social sharing, you may want to take a look at Social Warfare. It is probably the most highly rated social share plugin. It is what I use on this blog.
This is one of the most valuable free tools out there. You will want to know how your blog is performing, where your visitors are coming from, how much traffic you are getting, even the age, interests, spending power of your visitors.
This and more you get from Google’s powerful analytic website.
Wondering where to start building? Here is a detailed post I wrote that will give you all you need to know about building a blog business from scratch.
